Artist Statement

I first realized I wanted to become an artist while I was pursuing a degree in communication. I was studying abroad in Seville, Spain and recognized that my passion was art. The family that I lived with had a few artist-friends and I was able to visit their studios and see the process of creating art. This was my first trip to Europe and I was inspired by all of the patterns and textiles around the city. Because of this experience I was influenced to study textile design. When I came home I began to sew and realized how much I loved all of the different fabrics for their colors and patterns, but I finished my degree in communication and began to work full time at Anthropologie.
At Anthropologie, I worked as a merchandiser which enabled me to be creative and work with my hands everyday. Everyone I worked with was inspiring and motivational and they had all gone to art school. After working there for almost a year, I realized that I wanted to go back to school and pursue my true passion.
